Brief History of NEET

In 2012, the Medical Council of India (MCI), introduced a single or unified entrance exam for admission to any medical courses at both UG & PG Levels. This however brought chaos and unrest as states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir were against it. The main reason stated was that there was a huge difference in the syllabus the states follow and the syllabus MCI had put forth. Before NEET, all states conducted their own entrance examinations and used to take students based on its results and other criteria’s combined. Also, some prestigious medical colleges like AIIMS, JIPMER, KMC Manipal & Mangalore, CMC Vellore etc, conducted their own separate entrance exams. Earlier known as AIPMT, NEET completely replaced it from the year 2017.
